James M. "Marty" McConville, 71, of Waterloo, IA died Sunday, November 19, 2023, at MercyOne Waterloo. He was born March 11, 1952, in Waterloo, son of James J. and Elsie M. (Fox) McConville. He graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1971, began his college education at the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Communications.
Marty married Lori Welter on September 7, 1984, at St. Edward Catholic Church. They are members of the Central Christian Church, Waterloo. Together they owned and operated McConville Communications for more than two decades.
Marty was a dedicated husband and dad. He coached his daughters in soccer and volleyball and spoke to them nearly every day to let them know he was thinking of them. He loved to whistle his favorite tunes, visit with family and friends, share memories of the good ol' days, answer trivia questions, listen to classic rock from the 60s, and watch Iowa sporting events. Marty was very frugal and would often use duct tape to repair items. Marty loved the annual Iowa Irish Fest and he and Lori were known in Waterloo as the King and Queen of Irish Fest. He believed in giving back to his community by volunteering at charity events and also made himself available to family, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances to help them whenever needed.
He is survived by his wife Lori, two daughters, Sara (Josh) Kelly and Staci (Jon Kolthoff) McConville of Waterloo, four grandchildren, Owen, Mazie, Nora and Elli, and brother, Tim (Jan) McConville and sister, Janet McConville of Verona, WI, and many extended family members. Marty is preceded in death by his parents.
